2G, 3G and copper network closures: check the equipment you may have missed
Intercom, transmitter or home telephony: preparing migration begins with uses that still depend on the old network.
Topic year 2026

A site may use fibre for its computers while retaining an older telephone line for another device. Moving the main internet connection to fibre therefore does not prove that every building service is ready. Start by identifying dependencies that are not visible from an office computer.
Three changes, several schedules
The copper network closure affects services using that fixed network. Orange describes a gradual closure, municipality by municipality, with a target of 2030. The date for the particular address must be checked. The 2G and 3G closures affect mobile networks and follow each operator’s schedule. These are separate changes. Check copper closure.
As of 20 October 2026, Arcep lists 2G closures already underway or scheduled during 2026 in mainland France. The 3G deadlines are different. For a device with a SIM card, identify the network it actually uses and consult the current guidance instead of applying one date to every device. See Arcep calendars.
Inventory by function
For each device, record its purpose, location, model reference, subscription and maintenance contact. Reception telephones, mobile intercoms, alarm transmitters and other technical connections should be checked against the actual installation. An invoice may help identify a line, but it does not prove how that line is currently used.
- Who receives the call or information?
- Which network allows transmission?
- What happens if this network is unavailable?
- Which trial will validate the service after migration?
Validate full service
Choosing a replacement involves more than a new connector or SIM card. The required functions must be checked with the manufacturer, operator and maintenance provider. Call handling, access permissions, power supply and the required continuity of service should be agreed before the changeover.
Alltech can help examine building equipment and coordinate the work. To get started, gather the model references, telephone numbers for the affected lines and any scheduling constraints. The aim is a migration that can be tested, with a named person responsible for each service.
