2016: The move to MPEG-4 calls for a review of the whole TV fleet
The April 5, 2016 transition shows why a screen, its receiver and collective distribution should be examined separately.
Topic year 2016

The milestone of April 5th
April 5, 2016 corresponds to the generalization of MPEG-4 coding for metropolitan TNT. The opinion issued by the CSA in 2015 described this step and associated standards developments. The compatibility of the receiver then becomes a question distinct from the mere presence of an antenna. CSA, opinion on the MPEG-4 transition.
In a hotel or residence, TV sets can come from several generations. The same signal distributed can therefore produce different results depending on the equipment.
Know the way of the program
A distinction must be made between roofing, possible head station treatments and decoding on each screen. The replacement of a television does not automatically correct a defect in the distribution.
An inventory with screen references and the rooms concerned facilitates verification. A test on a representative apparatus then prepares the sequence of operations.
What remains useful today
A format change should be treated as a compatibility project. Current standards, the configuration of exits and fleet capabilities must be verified with accurate references.
Alltech can examine the collective TV channel and organize controls to screens. The 2016 date is a historical landmark; it does not constitute compatibility validation for services broadcast today.
